C-RHS Student Receives Official Letter from The White House

C-R senior Aaron Weber recently received a letter from the President of the United States in response to a letter he wrote as part of his Participation in Government class.
In Mr. Weiss’ class, students are required to write a letter to an elected official as part of their coursework. Students may choose to write to officials at the local, state, or federal level, and mailing the letter is optional. Each student selects a topic or issue that matters to them and shares their perspective.
Topics often vary widely, ranging from school-related concerns and college affordability to broader community or societal issues. Through the assignment, students have the opportunity to express personal experiences and viewpoints while learning how civic participation works in practice.
Mr. Weiss notes that the assignment allows students to share meaningful perspectives. “The letters offer a window into students’ lives outside the classroom,” he explained. “It’s important for students to understand that their voices and opinions matter, and that civic participation is an important part of our democracy.”
The project continues to give students a firsthand opportunity to see how participating in government and civic dialogue can connect them to leaders at many levels.
